The historical heart of Cilento |

The name that today denotes the territory of the Park finds its origin precisely on the mountain that nowadays is known as the Mount Stella. Today, like in the past, it is considered to be a particularly suitable point as regards the control of the Cilento Coast and the sea stretch in front of it. In the XII century the fortifications built on the mountain lose importance in favour of one of the centres risen along its ridges: Rocca Cilento. The Castle, which was built there, is still well preserved and bears witness to the feudal epos of the Sanseverino family that lasted until 1552. Also the rest of the town is fascinating because while remaining in perfect harmony with the Castle it still preserves its intact ancient colouring typical of the Cilento dwellings. |
